We began the day by visiting Varnam Crafts, a social enterprise that empowers artisans and preserves rural crafts. Karthik, who has worked in big corporate extensively decided to establish Varnam 2 years ago and with optimum packaging and strategic marketing, it has become one of the most sought after hand-made craft brands. He shared the success story of Varnam, his passion for designing and how he managed branding & marketing with a meager budget! We were extremely excited to see and even buy some of the products!
The afternoon took us to BIG fm, a radio station owned by Reliance Entertainment. Surprisingly Radio is fairly new in India and is growing by leaps and bounds each year! They wanted some of us to do voice overs for an ad campaign, it was a surprise but our little Radio Jockeys performed like pros!
Later that afternoon we visited Temple designs, a medium sized advertising and media firm. Vidur Vohra, the head with 20 years of work experience spoke to us about the toughest campaign they handled, an electric car called REVA. Their personalized approach and attention to detail has won them several big clients like Wipro, Reliance trends and AXE deodorants. It was very different from the other ad firms we had seen and offered and excellent perspectives on running a medium scale ad agency.
